Damian Rebgetz


Damian Rebgetz, born in Darwin/Australia in 1978, studied classical singing (Queensland Conservatorium of Music), music theater (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts) as well as sound studies (Berlin University of Arts). As performer he was involved in productions such as “Western Society” by Gob Squad, “Warten auf die Barbaren” and “Hotel Savoy. Ein Theaterlabyrinth” by blendwerk/Dominic Huber as well as in “Unendlicher Spaß”, an adaptation of David Foster Wallace’s work in an episode directed by Anna-Sophie Mahler at the HAU (Hebbel am Ufer). In his various music-theatrical projects he mixes field studies with autobiography, storytelling, performance lecture and music. Damian Rebgetz collaborated in the musical concept for “Frühlingsopfer” by She She Pop. Together with Jessica Páez, Alexander Sieber and Thomas Koch he realized the music-lecture performance “Voice Box – that thing in your throat” (100° Festival Berlin, ARS Electronica). In 2012 he staged “The Heartbreakers Reunion Tour”, a performative audio walk through urban space on the occasion of the klangstaetten-stadtklaenge festival in Braunschweig. In 2012/13 he presented a series of lecture performances for the Neukölln Opera on the subject of “Science Fiction Opera” together with Paul Hankinson and Jessica Páez. Several music theater projects followed, including “Something for the Fans” (Impulse, 2013) and “The Hooks” (HAU, 2014). He also collaborated in “X Apartments” in Košice as well as in “X Firmen” at Theater der Welt in Mannheim in 2014.

Starting with the 2015/16 season Damian Rebgetz is a permanent member of the Münchner Kammerspiele ensemble.
