Henrike Iglesias is a four-member group of female writers and performers from Hildesheim and Berlin. It was founded in 2012 by Anna Fries, Laura Naumann, Marielle Schavan and Sophia Schroth. The group’s sphere of activity extends from the popular to the political, and via the personal back to the popular. They regard pop culture and mass media phenomena as a mirror of social conditions.
In the autumn of 2012, they created the performance “wir kommen nicht aus dem showbiz (auch wenn man das vielleicht denken könnte)”; it was premiered at the State of the Art Festival in October 2012 and in February 2013, it won the audience award in the Sophiensäle at the 100° festival Berlin. In June 2013, the production was invited to the festival OutNow! in Bremen, Germany. It deals with growing up in our media-shaped society, the self-image of young women and with the suggestion that “everything is a bit shitty on the whole, but also quite okay”: or “You Live, You Learn” (Alanis Morissette).
In February 2014, Henrike Iglesias organised the theatre party “Wir haben heute leider ein Foto für dich” for the 100° festival Berlin. The audience was invited to take part in a photo shoot, which could be followed on live camera from the dancefloor. With its concept for “I CAN BE YOUR HERO BABY” Henrike Iglesias was selected for the first issue of the artists-in-residence programme of the Schauspiel Leipzig. On 20 June 2014, “I CAN BE YOUR HERO BABY” celebrated its premiere at Schauspiel Leipzig. In it, the issue of sex work is superimposed onto the casting show “Germany’s Next Topmodel”. In this work, they ask questions about compulsion and voluntariness when selling erotic, aesthetic and visual services of women. “I CAN BE YOUR HERO BABY” has been shown at the ROXY Birsfelden, the Sophiensaelen Berlin and the FFT Düsseldorf. In addition, the production was nominated in 2015 for the virtual Theatertreffen by the platform nachtkritik.
In September 2014, Henrike Iglesias was shown with a carwash performance at the Männer in Garagen festival at the Sophiensaele. In “EROTISCHE AUßENREINIGUNG IHRES PKWs ODER: CAR WASH” they designed an erotic haunted house for viewers groups of 5 persons in a Renault Twingo. “GRRRRRL”, is the latest production by Henrike Iglesias, which was premiered at the 27.04.16 and is a co-production between the ROXY Birsfelden (CH) and the Sophiensäle Berlin; in July 2016, it was invited to the Body Talk festival during the Münchner Kammerspiele. In September 2016, it was shown in the Sophiensaelen Berlin and in October 2016 at the Schauspiel Leipzig. In spring 2016, Henrike Iglesias collaborated with the performance artist Nadège Grebmeier Forget, as part of the MixOFF Berlin/Montréal of the OFFTA live art festival in Montréal.
In the 2016/17 season Henrike Iglesias are collaborating with the Theater Junge Generation Dresden and the Theater Bielefeld.
The steady crew of Henrike Iglesias also includes Eva G. Alonso for light and video, as well as Malu Peeters for music and sound. They are dressed by Masha Mihoa Bischoff. Their production management is done by ehrlicheARBEIT.
In the season 2017/2018, the group will work on a production of “OH MY” (working title), in which the Münchner Kammerspiele is involved as a co-producer.
