She She Pop

She She Pop is a women’s performance collective that rejects the male dominated power structures of the hierarchic culture industry. The collective was founded in 1998 by graduates of the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Gießen. Soon the identity of the group had solidified sufficiently so that a simple gender separation was no longer necessary. Permanent members of She She Pop are Sebastian Bark, Johanna Freiburg, Fanni Halmburger, Lisa Lucassen, Mieke Matzke, Ilia Papatheodorou and Berit Stumpf. Their works shift the boundaries between audience and actors and frequently test the borders between classical material and one’s own biography, as was the case, for example, in “3 Schwestern”, in their fathers’ performance “Testament” after Shakespeare’s “King Lear”, and, originating from “Le Sacré du Printemps”, in their mothers’ performance “Frühlingsopfer” – all productions which have been invited worldwide and honored with international awards (Berliner Theatertreffen, Impulse-Festival, Canada, USA, Sweden, etc.).

During the 2015/16 season She She Pop is staging “50 Grades of Shame” following E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey” and Wedekind’s “Frühlingserwachen”, their first productions at the Münchner Kammerspiele.
