Stefan Merki, born in Switzerland in 1963, studied drama at the Berlin University of Arts. His first engagement brought him to the Schillertheater in Berlin where he performed in productions by Benno Besson, Hans Neuenfels, Katharina Thalbach and others. He had guest engagements at the Schaubühne Berlin, the Thalia Theater Hamburg as well as at the Theater Aachen. In 1996 he joined the ensemble of the Deutsche Schauspielhaus Hamburg. In addition to his commitment to the stage he regularly works for film and television as well as for BR Radio; he also plays in the band “Kapulikaupunki”.
Since 2001 Stefan Merki has been a permanent member of the Münchner Kammerspiele ensemble. Here he recently performed in productions, such as “Franziska” (directed by Andreas Kriegenburg, 2012), “Onkel Wanja” (directed by Karin Henkel and Johan Simons, 2013) as well as “Geschichten aus dem Wiener Wald” (directed by Stephan Kimmig, 2014). Currently he can be seen in „No Sex“ (directed by Toshiki Okada, 2018) and „Farm Fatale“ (directed by Philippe Quesne, 2019).
