Luis August Krawen

Luis August Krawen, born in Bremen, grew up in Berlin and was a long-standing member of P14 at the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. In addition to numerous youth plays, including Lena & Leonce, which was invited to the Theatertreffen der Jugend, he was also involved in productions by René Pollesch and Silvia Rieger.

In 2016, he began his studies at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies in Giessen, where he developed a strong interest in working with 3D animation. As a freelance video artist, he develops projections and digital visual worlds for the stage, including for Lola Arias’ Futureland at the Maxim Gorki Theater, René Pollesch’s Black Maria at the DT and Studio Braun’s Coolhaze at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

With Der Mensch erscheint im Holozän, directed by Alexander Giesche and awarded the 3-Sat Prize and the Nestroy Prize, he was invited to the 2020 Theatertreffen and, as part of the double bill Pierrot Lunaire / La Voix Humaine, he staged his own film under the musical direction of Kent Naganos at the Hamburg State Opera.

Since the 20/21 season, he has been Artist in Residence at the Münchner Kammerspiele, where he staged his stage debut with Nightcore in 2022. In 2022, he also developed animations for two parts of Valentin Schwarz’s Ring and for Roland Schwab’s Tristan und Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival.
